Jim Kogel

Jim Kogel is a self-taught artist with a degree in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. His process is both methodical and intuitive. His compositions utilize classical grid, diagonals and perspective components typical of renaissance era painters. He works in series. Previous work include use of historic Madonna images, rectilinear compositions, exploration of patterns, light, mass, equilibrium and color theory.
The current series – Dancers in Spatial, Monochromatic Format incorporate his interest in Annunciation paintings, patterns, equilibrium, light and perspective. They utilize a grid and historic ballet photographs.
